The treatment of Female Sexual Dysfunction

Female Sexual Disorder (FSD) is a problem of which the magnitude and implication is frequently underestimated. In the US alone, more than 30 percent of all women have little or no desire in sex. Only some women suffering from FSD seek professional help for it. Yet, there are millions of women for whom FSD is a serious problem.

The pharmaceutical industry is diligently looking for solutions, but has not been very successful to date. However, the experimental results of Lybrido were considered promising. Lybrido is the first medicine with both a central and a peripheral effect.

Research into the development of cures for FSD often has a limited focus: it mainly concentrates on increasing sexual motivation and sexual desire.

Female sexuality is in fact much more complicated. Dr. Tuiten of the Dutch scientific research company “Emotional Brain Incorporated” has carried out research into the influence of hormones on sexual behaviour in women with particular focus on the interaction between body and mind. He believes that the treatment of FSD requires a cure with a dual effect: a medicine that acts on both the brain and the body, in particular on sexual motivation and the physical reaction.
